Who is Athena?
Athena represents the strength, courage and wisdom required in the fight against women's cancers.
According to Greek mythology, Athena sprung from Zeus' forehead fully grown and armored. She wore a helmet and a shield adorned with the head of Medusa, wielding Zeus's thunderbolt as her weapon.
When Zeus announced that a city would be given to the god who produced the most useful gift to the Greeks, Athena created an olive tree, which provided shade, oil and olives to the people. Zeus awarded the city to Athena and named it Athens in her honor.
While a deeply dedicated and wise protector of cities and states in times of war, she was skilled in the art of peace. Athena is often depicted with an olive branch, a symbol of peace and plenty, and was known for her healing powers.
Athena Partners has adopted a modern interpretation of Athena as our symbol and namesake. The battle to find a cure demands extraordinary wisdom and relentless commitment to the cause. Athena represents these qualities in our new rendering of her as an athlete. Her spear has become a javelin, which she throws with precision and power-an image conveying empowerment and strength.
Building on the collective strength of all who care about the cause, Athena Partners donates 100% of profits from sales of Athena bottled water to targeted, innovative Northwest women's cancer research initiatives. The finish line is a cure, and victory begins with the power of each individual to make a difference.
