At Athena Partners, we are truly honored to join together with Kristin Hannah, her readers, and their friends and family to make an important difference in the fight against breast cancer.

This wonderful partnership came about when Kristin met Athena’s founder, Trish May. The two instantly felt a bond in their shared experience of losing a mother and many dear friends to the disease. They also shared a passion to DO something about it- - to help find a cure and support those who are touched along the way.

Kristin Hannah’s Firefly Fund in her own words

“I was a college student when I lost my mother to breast cancer. In the years between then and now, I have been touched by the disease many more times. More relatives, more friends have faced the terrible diagnosis.

Like so many women, I have spent my lifetime being on the lookout for danger signs. I do my self-exams and have my yearly mammograms. I do everything I’m supposed to do.

That’s why IBC, inflammatory breast cancer, is so frightening. It presents in sly and unexpected ways. Often family physicians overlook or misdiagnose the symptoms-and we all know that with cancer, timing is everything. So I want to urge women to add the IBC warning signs to their list of symptoms to look for.

I feel so strongly about this that I’ve joined with Trish May and the wonderful team at Athena in the fight against breast cancer.

It all seems so impossibly big sometimes-this battle against cancer-and it’s easy to think that you can’t do anything substantial to help. But I believe we CAN make a difference. And that’s the reason I started the Firefly Fund.

I’m hoping that my readers, and their friends and families, will join me in taking the first step. It’s not about how much you can afford to donate, it’s about making the choice to be a part of the solution.

Together, as women, we can make a difference in the world and in each other’s lives.”

How You Can Give Back

“I began blogging-under protest-in 2009. In “talking” to my many readers, I began to truly appreciate how connected we women are, and how much we can help and support each other, even if we’ve never met.

I created the Firefly Fund as a way to give back. I encourage women to join me in this endeavor by donating to the fund.
